Safra AHM Bay Run 21km - the night before

08.23.08 | Permalink | Comment?

My next running milestone is approaching fast - the Safra Army Half Marathon Bay Run. Due to very, very busy work schedule in the past 3 weeks, 10th week into my training and I’ve only managed to train up to 16k. For this race, I am looking to complete the course in 2h 30min.

Energy loading - Drinking lotsa fluids to keep body super hydrated. Banana-boosting myself this 2 days to store up enough duracell, eating slightly more while keeping ECA to minimum. Bought extra pack of gel to supplement the run, but hopefully I dont need them all.

The route details

The Bay Run racepack consist of tees, number tag, champion chip and bunch of discount vouchers.

70k participants in AHM07, cant imagine how big of the turn out it gonna be like. Instead of sleeping through another lazy Sunday, I have a chance to be part of grande scheme of things. That thought along is enough to keep me excited the whole day… But, lets hope I have more than excitement to get me through the race.

Gel pack — checked
Spare tees / short — checked
mp3 player — checked
HRM watch — checked
hmm… everything covered.. I think… guess I am all set for another 08 resolution.

Good luck and have a good run to all participants tomorrow!

Week 5 - Interval Run - 4×800m

Ankle was healing well and decided to hit my interval run this week. Completed a workout target of 4×800m.

Post mortem of the run, ahead of my Mizuno 10k this Sunday. Pant like a dog when I did 800m at 6:00 pace (10km/h) (Lap 1, 3, 5). But I was very comfortable with my normal 7:00 pace (8.5km/h) pace (Lap 7). Looks like I may be aiming for a 6:30 pace speed this Sunday (estimated 1:09h for 10km). Doesn’t look like I can do a 10km/h anytime sooner, but its a good start. At least I now have a baseline to benchmark upon during my training.

Week 4: Collecting my first runner pack

07.19.08 | Permalink | Comment?

Limping my way to collect my first runner pack for Mizuno Wave Run on Friday. Beside the shirt and shoe bag, i was expecting a running related magazine, but Torque? and a dated June edition? that just smell like stock clearing exercise. Anyway, I ain’t complaining. But the lack of common sense from the marketing dept, which completely wasted the opportunity to cross sell to targetted audience, is just disappointing.

Week 4 - LSD - 12k

missing one entire week of training due to work and travel schedule. told myself i need to get my weekly long run done asap so I went out late last night to complete a 12k.

the run was good. i was able to run a faster 8:35 pace, more consistently. by keeping my HR at below 80% and taking a short walking break every 30min, I can complete the distance and still feels good at the end of the session.

the bad? poorest choice of timing and location. i was running around construction site and under very poor lighting condition. i ended up over stressed the left ankle that leaves me limping. this ain’t good as i was expecting my first 10k next sunday. now i can only hope for speedy recovery soon.

Training: Week Zero

Looks like I am doing this for real. Committing myself to:

10km, Mizuno Wave Run (27-July). Consider this a pre-warmup run.

21km, Safra Bay Run (24-Aug). Almost the real thing.

42km, Standchart Singapore Marathon (7-Dec).

Bought a GPS training watch (more on this Garmin gadget later), and a new pair of Asics running shoes. Did a trial run to test the water. 6km, in a “comfortable” 6km/h pace, consider world record for 42km is 2hr 04min 26sec, that is 21km/h mind you.

But it looks like all system green, for now.

I might have a little too much to drink the night before. Woke up last week and decided I shall run a full marathon this year. Targetting to ‘complete’ standchart full marathon run this dec.

42km, virgin runner, 20 weeks to train, can it be done? Impossible is nothing.

(ahem adidas, this is where you enter the stage, you have my contact)

Impossible is nothing
